Getting to Poole and checking in
The ferry terminal sits on Poole Harbour, signed from the A31/A350, about half an hour from Bournemouth. Check-in closes before departure - the deadline in your booking confirmation applies, with extra lead time for vehicles and pets. Foot passengers travel light here: the terminal is compact and the walk to the boat short.
On board
The Levante Jet is a fast craft, not a cruise ferry: airline-style seating, a café-bar, and a crossing short enough that no cabin exists or is needed. In a swell the ride is livelier than on a conventional ship - if the forecast is rough and your stomach disagrees with fast boats, the Portsmouth conventional sailing is the steadier choice.
Vehicles, bikes and pets
Cars, motorbikes and bicycles are carried, booked by real dimensions; larger motorhomes fit better on the conventional Portsmouth ship. Pets travel with advance booking - and because Jersey lies inside the Common Travel Area, a direct UK crossing needs no animal health certificate. Arrival in St Helier and onward travel
The harbour puts you straight into Jersey's capital: the town centre, the bus station and the marina cafés are minutes from the ramp. Jersey rewards a car less than the mainland does - the island is nine miles by five - but with one you reach the north-coast cliffs, Gorey castle and the west-coast surf beaches in well under half an hour each.
