Cherbourg-en-Cotentin is a working harbour city with a compact centre and the Cité de la Mer maritime museum by the port. The geography is the argument: the wild west coast of the Cotentin is under an hour, Mont-Saint-Michel about ninety minutes down the west-coast road, and the N13 runs east past Utah Beach towards Bayeux and Caen.
